I love, love, LOVE our Angelcare baby monitor! This monitor has allowed me many peaceful nights. I don’t have to stare at a monitor screen or creep into Alexis’ room late at night to make sure she is okay and breathing.
I can just know that she is breathing. We started using the monitor the night we came home from the hospital, and we still use it now, 18 months later.
The specific model I have is AC401-2P Movement and Sound Monitor.
How it works: There is a pad that goes under the mattress in the crib that detects movement.
If at any point the baby stops breathing for more than 20 seconds, an alarm on a monitor will go off by vibrating and beeping in both your room and the baby’s room. You can change the settings so that it will only alarm in one room or the other.
A base station for the nursery includes a built in night light, audio monitor and battery backup in case of power failure. The parent unit tells you the temperature in the baby’s room and will alert you if it gets too hot or too cold.
It also has sound lights to see and hear your baby’s sounds and gives you the choice between a voice activation setting or continuous sound reception.
We did have a few false alarms in the beginning, when babies are swaddled the breathing pad under the mattress sometimes does not detect that they are breathing but I would take a million false alarms over not knowing when something is wrong.
