Clara’s Girly Country Birthday Party
Mama Say What?! reader Kelly outdid herself with this wonderful party. These colors are just beautiful together!
With details including Clara’s squeal-worthy birthday outfit and awesome DIY smash cake, I don’t think that Kelly left one detail unturned.
The photographer captured the party perfectly and this party alone makes me positive that I will be hiring a professional for my next big event.
Thank you Kelly for sharing your beautiful little girl’s day with us. I know the MSW readers are going to enjoy this party as much as I have!
What inspired the theme of your child’s party?
My inspiration for Clara’s birthday party came from a fellow mama from the Project Baby boards. She had posted pictures of her daughter’s nursery which had a modern country theme (at least that’s how I like to describe it) using a lot of floral in aqua, red and pink. I fell in love with the color scheme the second I saw it. In fact, it’s going to be the color scheme of Clara’s big girl room.
What was one element of the party that you are particularly proud of?
It would have to be her giant smash cupcake.
I purchased one of the infamous giant cupcake tins months in advance thinking it would be an easy project. Oh boy was I wrong!
Without having any type of experience using a piping bag, getting the icing on the cake without it just sliding off was difficult. But in the end, I think it turned out great.
Did you work with any vendors (photographer, cake maker, location etc.)? If so, who? And what did you like about them?
We worked with a few vendors that day. The first being a bakery located in central New Jersey called Sugar and Sunshine Bakery which we used for the cupcakes. They are the BEST cupcakes!
For the decorations and Clara’s outfit, I worked with a few shops on Etsy:
Banner: Paisley Handmade
Invitations and cupcake flags: Allison Kizer Designs
Party hat and bib: Dainty Couture
Diaper cover: The Sassy Squirrel
The biggest vendor we got to work with that day was our photographer, Laura Bruen. We have worked with her for years now starting with our engagement shoot four years ago all the way until now at Clara’s first birthday. She is a fantastic photographer and I can’t imagine using anyone else. She has been there for us from the start of it all!
What was your favorite moment/part of the party?
Other than spending that bittersweet day with family and my closest friends, it would have to be when Clara got to dig into her smash cake. At first she wanted nothing to do with it, but then she really got into the icing. However, it didn’t last long before she pushed the entire thing off her tray to the floor.
What was your birthday girl’s favorite part?
Hmmm… I’d say her favorite part had to have been playing with all the presents, as I opened them – her favorite was a dancing and singing penguin that her uncle bought for her. She couldn’t get enough of it!
Can you give any advice to mamas that are planning a party for their little one?
Start planning far in advance! Her birthday really snuck up on me, It’s true what they say, they first year FLIES by. Even though I had started gathering supplies when she was only six months old, I didn’t get to organizing and completing most of my DIYs until the week of her party. I will definitely start earlier for any future parties.
