DIY Felt Board – Learning is Fun

I am always looking for a learning opportunity with R, but I also want something that is new and fun for her.

When I can make these things myself and save some money, it is all the better. This project was as easy as 1, 2, 3 and has endless possibilities!

Out at the craft store, I saw some felt and knew what my next project would be. I already had a poster board at home that I bought in a big pack and had not used. I purchased a multi-pack of felt pieces that I could use for shapes, animals or anything else.

Materials Needed:

• poster board
• felt to cover the board
• a hot glue gun
• scissors
• puffy paint
• a pack of felt for the “accessories.”

Step 1:
I wrapped my felt board in black to keep it basic and glued the felt onto the back of the board.

Step 2:
Then I cut out shapes and color strips to play with.

Step 3:
With puffy paint I wrote the colors and shapes on the felt for word recognition.

This is great because felt will stick to felt, so no glue will come off the felt and no velcro needed. Just stick the shapes or other felt objects right onto the board and let the fun begin!

R is only 11 months old, so right now she just likes to put the felt pieces on and then take them off and throw them.

However, I like that she is playing with shapes and I always say the words and colors. As she grows, I plan to do animals and also create nursery rhyme stories with this board by making the characters from those stories. Like I said, the possibilities are endless.
