Summer Infant Slim & Secure Monitor

I knew from the beginning, after finding out that we were expecting our first child, that I really wanted to purchase a video monitor.

After going back and forth debating between the movement monitor and the video monitor, I decided the video would be a better long-term purchase for us. I figured we would use it for multiple children and I loved the fact that I would be able to see my baby whenever I wanted or needed to.

After careful research, we went with the Summer Infant Slim&Secure™ Handheld Color Video Monitor. It seemed to be good quality and wasn’t going to break the bank at the same time. It was a middle of the line monitor which I figured would work out great for us.

About two months after our son was born, we broke out the monitor for his nap time. It was easy to set up and seemed relatively easy to use. I liked that I could see him in color during the day and that I was able to see his breathing just from looking at the screen. The picture was clear even at night when it would automatically change over to night vision. You could also hear everything that was going on in the room.

We never had any issues with interference, and I could walk across the street and not lose the signal. We also liked the belt clip because it was easy to carry around while doing the dishes, laundry, etc.

Once we transitioned our son into his nursery at three months, I loved that I could see him and know that he was okay just by looking at the monitor right from my bed, not having to go down the hall to his room in the middle of the night.

The peace of mind was completely worth it to me.

I loved that we didn’t have to interrupt him as he was trying to fall asleep but we could still see everything that was going on. A lot of times he would fuss or cry as he was settling in and by being able to see what was going on from the monitor, we didn’t have to bother him or ruin his routine.

At one point the receiver stopped charging. I called Summer Infant and they replaced my entire monitor right away, which was a huge relief.

One of the only negative drawbacks to this monitor is that once mounted to the wall, it cannot move or rotate. So if my son moved around in his crib, I could not pan the area to find him. Also its not very easy to travel with, as it has no battery option for the camera part, so you have to drag the entire thing wherever you go.

Other than those things, we love this monitor and definitely recommend it.

After almost two years of everyday use, our dog knocked the receiver off a table; it shattered and the screen broke… We upgraded to the Summer Infant Privacy Plus Series Touch Plus Digital Color Video Monitor and love it as well!
