Twins’ Carnival-Themed First Birthday Party

I’m so excited to be able to share a good friend’s party with you. Nicole is no stranger to creativity – she’s such a crafty mama! She planned an amazing carnival-themed party for her twins’ Oaklynn and Barrett’s first birthday. This was a huge celebration for Nicole and her family and friends, and especially the twins, considering how much they had gone through during their first year of life. Their first birthday party turned out perfect!

What was your role in this party?

I have always loved to plan parties and celebrations, so when my twins turned one I knew we had to make this event unforgettable. I love DIY projects and doing things on a budget, and this party was no exception.

What inspired the theme of the celebration?

Since I have both a boy and a girl, picking a theme that would be fit for both of them was a little bit of a challenge. After months of gathering ideas I finally decided to do a carnival theme. Bright colors, balloons, fun decorations, I could not resist!

What was one element of the celebration that you are particularly proud of?

I loved the decorations! Nothing pulls a party together better then coordinating decorations like the dessert table, balloon arch, and balloon topiaries.

And the shadow boxes are memories from their time in NICU. I created everything here at home, including their outfits and even their centerpiece birthday cake.

A friend of mine created the chalkboard birthday signs.

Chelsea Hull Photography and Graphic Design created our amazing invitations and took our cake smash pictures. Bellissimbele Photography captured the moments of the event for us.

What was your favorite moment of the celebration?

My favorite moment of the event was when evening came, and we displayed a one year celebration video for all of our guests. Oaklynn and Barrett were born at just 27 weeks gestation and they spent the first several months of their lives in the Akron Children’s Hospital NICU. I created this video to share with everyone, and to show their amazing journey. It was a great way to bring the party to a close! Definitely not a dry eye in the crowd. Here is our video.

What was the Oaklynn and Barrett’s favorite moment of the celebration?

The cake! What one-year-old doesn’t?

Is there anything you wish you would have done differently? If so, what?

I would not change one thing about this event! Everything fell into place perfectly!

What advice would you give to other party planners?

Take your time to plan an event the way you want it to be. Don’t settle for paying top dollar for everything, if you do some research everything can be done on a budget. The more decorations the better! And don’t forget to try to make the celebration an amazing experience for the guests.
