Anara’s “Tangled” First Birthday Party

As a mama of two, soon to be three, little girls, I am no stranger to the Disney movie Tangled. In fact, we have had it on almost constantly for the last few months!

Mama Say What?! mama Debbie threw a seriously awesome Tangled themed party for her beautiful little girl Anara, complete with some rad DIYs!

What inspired the theme of your child’s party?

My daughter has an INTENSE love for the movie Tangled. I was hoping to have a circus-themed party because I’d seen so many cute ones as inspiration, but I thought that having a party based on something that was near and dear to her was more important.

What was one element of the party that you are particularly proud of?

I was very proud of how my DIY cupcake tower came out, but I wasn’t so proud of how my actual (DIY) cupcakes turned out, haha.

Did you work with any vendors? If so, who? And what did you like about them?

We did not. We had originally “hired” a friend of ours as a photographer, but it didn’t work out and I was very disappointed.

We had the party at our house and I made the cupcakes myself. The cupcakes were delicious, but the frosting was a hot mess!

What was your favorite moment/part of the party?

When we sang her Happy Birthday, she hid herself, and I thought it was the cutest thing. I’m not sure if she was scared or shy, but it was very funny.

What was your birthday girl’s favorite part?

I think her favorite part was having the movie playing during the party.

Can you give any advice to mamas that are planning a party for their little one?

Simplify, simplify, simplify!

In hindsight, I took on way too much and procrastinated way too long. I had so many ideas that just didn’t come to fruition because I didn’t plan accordingly. Ask yourself, realistically, what can you do? Then ask yourself where you need to reach out. That second one is tricky because if you’re going to reach out to friends or family, which I think all of us would like to do for convenience, you have to make sure they are reliable and anticipate that it may become awkward. In which case, you may need to hire out and then face the costs.

Try to set a reasonable timeline, make plans, and stick to them so that you’re not swamped at the last minute.

Remember that it is a celebration of your child and try not to get carried away (which is very easy to do in all the excitement). So long as you’re there to play with them, and maybe give them a sweet treat, their day will be awesome and that’s the most important thing.

Budget: $150-300

I would say 70% of our budget was spent on food (Quizno’s sandwich platters, Wing Stop wings, and we had a Little Caesar’s run for reinforcements.) 30% was spent on decorations/favors. Most decoration supplies were bought at either Hobby Lobby or Party City. The favor bags had mini paint palettes, gold coins, bubble wands, Rapunzel barrettes, green bouncing frogs as Pascal and some Annie’s snacks.
