Sophie’s Olivia the Pig First Birthday

I love quality, laid back, easy going parties and this Olivia the Pig party was just that! Sophie’s mama, Vanessa, was able to plan an amazing party on a budget— something many mamas strive to do!

What inspired the theme of your child’s party?
I decided to do an ‘Olivia the Pig’ theme for her first birthday. I thought  Olivia was really cute and I loved the colors that are associated with her. I also knew that I wouldn’t have an issue finding decorations to fit the theme.

What is one element of the party that you are particularly proud of?
Her birthday cake! I made it myself— it was the first time I had ever tried to work with fondant, and although it wasn’t perfect, I got a lot of compliments on it. I learned that when working with fondant, always have more on hand than you think you’ll need in case your first try doesn’t work (which happened to me!). I also made coordinating cupcakes.

I made two different sizes of pompoms out of tissue paper; got helium-filled balloons and made a ‘happy birthday Sophie’ banner myself.

To make it, I just got a book of heavy scrapbook paper and cut triangles out of the paper. I printed off the letters, cut them out and glued them onto the triangles.

Did you work with any vendors? If so, who? And what did you like or dislike about them?
I ended up doing most everything myself— the cake, the decorations and her birthday banner. I did get Sophie’s cupcake toppers from an Etsy seller, Socials, and her hairclip was from another Etsy seller, Tiny Dragonfly.

I also got an iron-on Olivia the Pig from an Etsy vendor, but she’s not doing iron-ons anymore. I definitely recommend Etsy as a great place to start when trying to find items for a themed party.

What was your favorite moment/part of the party?
My favorite part of the party was watching the absolute joy on Sophie’s face as she discovered new things that day; the taste if birthday cake, new toys and the fun of a helium-filled balloon!

What was your birthday girl’s favorite part?
She got to wear a pink, frilly pettiskirt and was showered with attention the whole day. She was pretty impressed with her new toys too!

Can you give any advice to mamas that are planning a party for their little one?
You don’t need to spend a lot of money on the party— it’s really easy and inexpensive to make the decorations (look on Pinterest for ideas) and food. And, at the end of the day, your little one won’t remember the day!

Sophie’s outfit was a plain pink onesie with an iron-on applique and her pettiskirt was something that we had already. I think I spent about $75 on the party including decorations, food and the candy table (which was a hit with the bigger kids and adults).

Party Budget: $ (0-$150)

Vendors:

Cupcake toppers: Socials

Sophie’s hair clip: Tiny Dragonfly

Amazing day, perfectly priced! Great job mama!
