Maxi Cosi Mico Review

When I was pregnant, I was overwhelmed with all the baby gear options to choose from in regards to strollers, car seats, cribs and bouncy chairs. I knew that James’ safety needed to be number one with everything.

I am so glad we chose the Maxi Cosi Mico infant car seat because it kept him safe, comfortable and was easy for mom and dad to use. You also can’t beat the price!

When I first began the hunt for James’ seat, I found that most car seats were cumbersome and awkward. They seemed over-sized and too heavy. This is where the Maxi Cosi excels. It is noticeably lighter than its competitors, weighing in at 8.7 lbs (without the base). It also has one of the smallest physical footprints on the market, making it an excellent option for any vehicle, ranging from a large SUV to a compact car. It fit in the rear middle seat of both our Chevrolet Equinox and Toyota Tundra without any issue. It could easily fit behind the passenger seat also, if needed.

This seat comes with side impact protection and a five-point harness system. I found the harness system easy to use with its quick release button hidden in the front fabric. One small feature I love is the extra fabric cover they provide that goes around base of the lock in the harness. I didn’t think much of it, but after hearing stories of my friends pinching their kids’ thighs in the lock, I am so glad to have it.

I really like the fabric choices that Maxi Cosi offers, too. I am not a fan of the busy loud prints that many car seats brands offer. I wanted something simple and understated. Maxi offers black, blue, red, and brown options. We went with the all-black option and love it. It even has a cute bubble detail to give it some character. Even with the seat being black, we never had issues with the seat getting too hot. The fabric is also easy to remove and wash when needed— it peels right off. I have washed it many times and never had issues with shrinkage.

The seat was very easy to install in the car using either the seat belt or LATCH system. I was able to install it myself at 38 weeks pregnant (Yes, it was a funny sight!). This seat has a built in adjuster on the bottom, so you don’t need to worry about using a rolled up towel to level the base. I have yet to see another manufacturer offer this in a seat.

The only downside for me is that when you adjust the straps, you have to take them apart on the back of the seat and re-thread them through new slots. Other car seats have a slider built-in which makes it easier to do.

I shopped around for this seat and found that had the best deal. The seat cost the same as other sites but when bought as a combo with the Quinny Buzz stroller, I received the Dream bassinet for free ($150 value). Shipping was also free. Here is my review for my Quinny Buzz stroller, it’s so awesome.

Overall, I am so impressed with this seat! I am saving it for baby number two. I would strongly recommend this seat to all my mommy friends.

Where I got it:
How Much I Paid: $199 with free shipping
Average Retail Price: $189 - $229
Where is it available? Junior Baby (in Canada only), Amazon

  1. I have to agree I love my Maxi Cosi…… We have it in black also. It fits great with our Uppa Baby and we get stopped a lot due to the look it creates. A great buy all around.

  2. Great review I would love this car seat!
