Mother’s Day Letters: Alex’s Mama

Dear Mom,

There’s really no way to convey how truly thankful I am for all of the support, help and advice you’ve given me in the last three and a half years since I became a mama. And even before I became a mama, through decades of inspiration, guidance and love you set a strong foundation for me and my siblings.

You taught me about how to set real priorities in my life; how unimportant things like laundry and dirty dishes were when there was a treasure hunt to be had or a painting to be finished. You taught me that making cookies can help ease the itch of chicken pox and that a snuggle can send bad dreams away.

With Mother’s Day approaching I am appreciating, more than ever, how much you did for all of us kids, and how much you still do for us. When I have a rough day, I think back to how an average day must have been for you being a SAHM with four kids under the age of six. My day can’t possibly be as hard as a rough day was for you; I only have one kid!

Having had the opportunity to be both a working mama and a stay-at-home mama, I appreciate even more how much energy and love goes into mothering. The demands of being physically and emotionally present are so worth it to see the miracle that is my growing son. Thank you for setting such a good example for me, and for continuing to inspire me.

Watching you become such an amazing grandma to TJ has brought so much joy to my life. I adored having my grandparents close by when I was a child and I hope to move closer to you so TJ can have the same wonderful experiences that I had growing up.

There have been times where I feel like I have eased into this motherhood thing pretty easily, and I honestly believe it’s because I had you for a role model.
