Danica’s Piggy 1st Birthday Party

Danica’s mama Lindsay has an obsession with pigs, so for her, it was only natural to have baby’s first birthday pig-themed. Danica was one spoiled little piglet!

What inspired the theme of your child’s party?

I chose the theme because I love pigs. When I was seven years old, my sister bought me a stuffed pig that I named Rosy; that is where my pig obsession started. Did I mention Danica’s middle name is Rose?

Anyway, if Danica had really liked a certain cartoon or a certain toy, I would have themed the party around that, but at that time she did not have a special love for anything in particular, so I went for something that I liked. I figured it would be cute to base if off the Nick JR. cartoon, Olivia. Olivia is an adorable pig with a big personality, just like my sweet Danica (the personality part that is)!

What is one element of the party that you are particularly proud of?

The element I am most proud of is probably all the decorations that I made. I am not a creative person so I was quite impressed with what I was able to make.

I made big pomander balls that we hung from the ceiling, her highchair banner and small signs that featured Olivia and some of her ‘rules of life’.

Another part of the decor I loved is the three foot wooden Olivia that Danica’s grandpa and grandma made. It is beyond adorable.

Did you work with any vendors (photographer, cake maker, location etc)? If so, who? And what did you like or dislike about them?

I used 2 Tarts, a small bakery in our town of New Braunfels. The cake was just what I wanted, and it was delicious too! They also made a small smash cake just for Danica, and it came out perfect. 2 Tarts did an excellent job! I could not have asked for more.

I also used a small boutique called Simply Adorable to make Danica’s birthday outfit. I knew exactly what I wanted before I walked into the store, and luckily they had all the right material and prints already on hand. They made her outfit exactly how I wanted it and I loved it. My only complaint is I had to go in a few times so they could fix her pants. At first they made capris when I wanted full length pants, then the pants were too short, and then the pants were a good four inches too long. I ended up finding someone on a local mama group that was able to hem them for me to the correct length.

What was your favorite moment/part of the party?

My favorite part of the party was probably when everyone was singing happy birthday. It was a little emotional because it really sunk in that my little infant was indeed turning one year old.

What was your birthday girl’s favorite part?

I think Danica mostly enjoyed having so many people at our house. She had fun crawling around and getting to be the center of attention. But I think she had the most fun the day after her party, when things were calm, and she got to play with all her new toys. She had a blast!

Can you give any advice to mamas that are planning a party for their little one?

My advice is to enjoy every moment. Do not put too much pressure on yourself to make and do everything; you need time to be with your baby and just have fun. They only turn one once, so try to relax a bit and soak it all in; you worked hard on this party and you deserve it!
