Lunette Menstrual Cup

Since having my daughter, I have really entered into the world of trying to live greener.

We cloth diaper Anna, so I started thinking if I don’t want to use disposable products on Anna, why would I want to use disposable products for myself? I had heard about Mama Cloth and menstrual cups, so it seemed like the next logical step for me to take. I had wanted to start using them earlier, but I had some inhibitions— would it be a huge mess? Would it be comfortable?

I waited for a menstrual cup to come up on a daily deal site because I didn’t want to chance spending full price on a product that maybe wouldn’t work for me. One day, the Lunette Menstrual Cup came up as a deal on Baby Half Off. Generally, these menstrual cups retail for $39.99, but I purchased mine from babyhalfoff for $19.99.

When I first got my Lunette Cup, I was about halfway through my cycle. I prepped the cup as per the package instructions, and immediately began using it.

So far, I have used the menstrual cup through 3 complete cycles. Without a doubt, I absolutely love this product!

The first time you insert the cup, it is a bit strange. You have to fold the cup in order to place it inside your vagina.

For me, sometimes when I am inserting the cup it is slightly uncomfortable over my bladder, which is an indicator that it isn’t inserted far enough. Once the cup is in place correctly, you shouldn’t be able to feel it at all.

I have found that after using this product for the past several months, it is significantly more comfortable than tampons.

One of the things that I really love about this menstrual cup is that it can be kept in for up to 12 hours. That means I am only changing this product before I go to bed, and when I get up in the morning. I don’t have to worry about keeping tampons in my purse or diaper bag. Above all other things— this is the real selling point for me!

Now here comes the part that most people dread, removing the full menstrual cup. I was warned that it could be messy, but so far I have not had an issue. I don’t get any blood on my hands, because all of the menstrual flow is contained in the cup. I simply lay down a piece of toilet paper in the toilet for the blood to catch on (so it doesn’t stain the toilet bowl) remove the cup and dump the contents onto the piece of toilet paper, then wash the cup with the Lunette Menstrual Wash, and once I am ready to, I reinsert the menstrual cup and I am set for another 12 hours.

All in all, I think this product is a must have. I have less cramps, spend less money and have to change the product less frequently. I say, “Mama’s gotta have it!”

  1. I have been curious about these for a while but never found anyone who had tried it. Thanks for the review. Very informative.

  2. This is something that used to gross me out, but after reading your review it actually sounds pretty neat!

  3. I have been curious about these for a while, but I’m still scared of the mess. maybe I’ll get over my fear next time I see one come up on a daily deal site :)

  4. Thank you for your great review! It’s nice not to have any extra “stuff” in the diaper bag- I know- I’ve got 2 little ones!

  5. I also got mine from the site and have been using it for over 6 months. I recommend it to all my girlfriends and female family members :) I have even used it camping at a huge music festival this summer with only Blue-Room bathrooms, still no problems, I just went with babywipes and a bottle of water for cleaning :) But the best thing (besides not having to spend $$$ every month on pads and tampons) is not having to sleep on a towel at night with a huge pad on! My only regret is that I didn’t get one sooner!
