Rory’s Pinwheels and Polka Dots Birthday

This creative mama from Mama Say What?! put on the most adorable party for her daughter’s first birthday! I love the idea of pinwheels and polka dots. Jamie used homemade décor and had help from her family to make their traditional name cake. It was such a lovely design!

What inspired the theme of your child’s party?

I wanted something fun and whimsical. Also, I wanted to choose something that wasn’t a theme that she would want later when she was older and is into certain characters. Since it was during the summer, bright colors were a must for me as well.

What was one element of the party that you are particularly proud of?

I am proud of all of the decor that I made. I think it really made the party pop and we got a lot of compliments.

Did you work with any vendors? If so, who? And what did you like about them?

Our photographer, Brittany Sahl, is a friend of the family. She captured details that I will always remember, and now I will always be able to share them.

The cake, as you can see, is my daughter’s name spelled out. This is a tradition in my family to do this on the first birthday. It is special and so much fun. Thank you to my family who helped bake, carve and decorate.

What was your favorite moment/part of the party?

I loved to watch my little girl walk around and socialize. She loved the attention, and when we sang Happy Birthday she was all smiles and clapped for herself. It made the day perfect to see her having so much fun.

What was your birthday girl’s favorite part?

Well, since she turned one she couldn’t tell me, but I could see how excited she was when she got her big truck. She climbed in, and it has been a challenge to get her out ever since.

Can you give any advice to mamas that are planning a party for their little one?

I would say to start planning early. You don’t want to be crammed at the end.

The day of the party went so smooth for us because we knew exactly what needed to be done, and all of the decorations were already made.

Also, assign someone to take pictures. I loved being able to relax and not worry about juggling being a hostess-with-the-mostess and also keeping my camera clicking away.
