Yummi Pouch Review and Giveaway!

I have three little girls ages seven, two-and-a-half, and nine months. When my two-year-old started getting into eating purees, we discovered “pouch” foods. I absolutely loved the convenience of them and my daughter loved the independence they gave her. Even my eldest daughter, who was five at the time, was always asking for them.

I had only two issues with them… first, they get VERY expensive. Even the sale price of $1 each can add up! My second qualm was that I like making my girls purees and foods and I couldn’t refill the pouches with our own stuff.

Now with three little mouths to feed, I knew I had to find a better solution. When I found out that Yummi Pouch was going to be giving a set of their “bright” pouches to a Mama Say What?! mama to review, I jumped at the opportunity.

Yummi pouches are a reusable food pouch. They have a pocket at the bottom that opens up to put a full 6 oz of food (purees, smoothies etc) in them. They have a straw piece for kids to suck the food out and a cap to close up the straw piece when they aren’t in use. No need for a spoon. They are the perfect solution to my dilemma!

We have been using these pouches since August and I have to say I think that they are genius. We used them constantly for everything from applesauce to smoothies to sweet potato purees. All three of my girls love them. I pack smoothies in them and put them in my eldest daughter’s lunch. I can throw a smoothie or some applesauce in one for my toddler to take on the go and even my baby girl loves to eat her purees from them (in fact this is the only way she will eat purees)!

I love them because they are very easy to use. They’re simple to fill and clean. We don’t have a dishwasher but they are top rack safe. I just use a bottle brush to clean the inside pouch part and a nipple brush to clean the mouth piece. When I’m done washing them I just hang them on our dish drying rack to dry. In addition to being dishwasher safe, they are also freezer safe, BPA-free, and phthalate-free.

Filling them is easy too… you just expand the bottom of the pouch and open up the top and fill it up. I normally just fill it straight from my blender or with a spoon. If you wanted precise measurements you could use a measuring cup as well.

I am also happy to say that these pouches are fairly toddler proof. My two-year-old is notorious for making messes and I was the most nervous to give them to her. But she uses them often and even though we have had a few spills from her squeezing the food out of the straw piece, she hasn’t yet been able to open the top part up. She has bit the straw piece to the point that I couldn’t get the lid on, but with some prying I was able to get it back in shape and we can still put the cover on all of them.

The final thing that I love is a fairly new discovery. I’m able to write on these using dry-erase markers, which is great considering I LOVE putting labels on everything. This is also helpful because I like to make up big batches of smoothies for the girls to grab when they are hungry.

My only one tiny complaint is that sometimes I have a hard time cleaning all of the food off of the ridges on the outside of the straw piece. This only seems to be an issue if the pouches sit a while before cleaning. When they’re cleaned right away, it’s not an issue at all.

All in all, I couldn’t be happier with them and I know that the lucky Mama Say What?! reader who wins a set of their own will be just as happy with them as we have been.
